There's a creak of floorboards from the flat above me.

It could just be the owner walking into their kitchen.

But it's really...

But it's really the concrete footsteps of a minotaur, sniffing the air, trying to find your upstairs neighbor who's hidden herself in the pantry, hoping, praying that the creature is just her imagination.
Sadly it's not.
And that next thump you hear?
Her body, falling out from behind the door, poor thing passed out from fright.
But she'll be alright as the monster gently scoops her up in his gigantic arms, ready to deliver her to his master, the Prince of the Other Realm.

It's really the house singing to amuse itself while the owner is away.

Someone robbing the tenants blind while you sit on the couch stuffing your face with Cheetos and watching ER re-runs.

Paranoia gets the best of you all the time. Your fears have haunted you for years, and now there you are, hiding in your closet with your loyal mutt and a baseball bat. When you hear the footsteps come nearer your side of the room, and a window creak open upstairs, you grip the baseball bat tighter, your knuckles going white just as a loud thumping noise startles you, making you yelp and drop your only form of protection. You hear the footsteps draw nearer, unmistakeably heading in your direction, and your poor puppy begins to growl low and loud. The door begins to creak open and the light you were sure you turned off earlier spills in from the hallway, illuminating your intruder, a man who looks, strangely enough, like an... angel?
